I am honestly so tired of you constantly making yourself smaller.
Of always thinking, “Oh, I wish I could have that too.” “Oh, I wish I could be like that.” You can. 2026 is your year, and you still have three months to actually make it that way.
Of course, everyone is happy during summer, everyone is on vacation, and then suddenly, when we return to our September routines, we get this massive mood drop. But if you really think about it, the year has twelve months. It is not fair to yourself to basically only live during the three months when it is summer, or honestly, sometimes not even all three, because you live life, you are working, so you enjoy those two and a half weeks you get off, if you even get that much.
No. No, we need to forget this way of thinking.
Stop Waiting for Friday, Stop Waiting for Summer
I remember back in 2016, during the whole big Tumblr era, there were all these preachy, inspirational quotes. And there was one that was something like, “Stop waiting for Friday. Stop waiting for summer. Stop waiting for next year.” As cheesy as it sounds, it is actually completely true.
What is the point of spending the entire week just waiting for Friday? Out of your five working days, you are not actually living them, you are just existing, because you are waiting for Friday. Then, throughout the entire year, you are waiting for summer, and summer is only three months out of twelve. So what are you doing with the other nine? Waiting. Exactly. So no.
As difficult and exhausting as life can sometimes feel, you have to make an effort to actually live it. And one of the best ways you can do that is by giving yourself main character energy this autumn. Because really, when else if not now?

How to Be Main Character in Your Everyday Life
This is actually the perfect time. Summer is over, everyone is returning to their routines, everyone is getting back into work and everyday life, so why not romanticize autumn? Why not romanticize your everyday life? That is exactly what I am doing.
I am a Libra, so naturally I have a Spotify playlist for basically every little life event, including my everyday routine, specifically for my twenty five minute commute to work. I intentionally chose the songs on this playlist so that I feel like I am in some little TV show, like there is a whole movie happening around me. I just imagine myself walking to work, I am the main character, the music is playing, and recently I have been listening to Sabrina Carpenter’s “Tears.” I am walking, moving, listening to my music, and I am just enjoying myself. For me, that actually helps so much with stepping into that main character energy.
It is like you slightly shift your perspective. You allow yourself to romanticize things, even something as simple as your apartment. Sometimes I imagine what my apartment would look like if I were living in a sitcom, like Friends for example. What would the apartment look like, what would my roommate be like, what would our little everyday routines be. I basically pretend I am living in a TV show. Obviously not in a completely delusional way, I am not losing touch with reality. It is just this little thing I do in my head that makes everyday life feel a little bit more exciting. And I think you should do that too.
Ways to Build Main Character Energy
Tap each one to see what it actually looks like in practice.
Build a playlist that makes your commute feel like a scene. Imagine your ordinary Tuesday as an episode worth watching. This is not delusion, it is a small mental shift that makes everyday life feel more alive.
Know where you stand with yourself. Know your worth. Know how beautiful you are. Appreciate yourself, and stop constantly looking outside of yourself for validation. You do not need to become someone else to be worthy of the life you want.
There is nothing more demoralizing than constantly changing your wardrobe every two weeks because a new trend came out. Buy trendy pieces if you love them, there is nothing wrong with that, but find the things that actually feel like you, and stick to it.
Every single day, take a moment to be grateful for the little things, because your life is not only the big milestones. It is all the tiny moments in between.

What’s Your Main Character Energy Type?
Answer four quick questions to find your type this fall.
The Romantic Lead
You already know how to romanticize your life, the playlist, the little movie in your head, the way you turn a commute into a scene. That is main character energy in its purest form.
Keep leaning into it, and let it carry you through the ordinary Tuesdays too, not just the exciting days.
The Confident Lead
Your main character energy comes from knowing your worth without needing anyone else to confirm it. That is rarer than people think, and it is exactly why you carry yourself the way you do.
Keep reminding yourself daily, especially on the days that test it.
The Quiet Lead
You do not need main character energy to be loud. Yours shows up in consistency, in showing up for yourself even when no one is watching. That is its own kind of powerful.
Give yourself credit for the small, unglamorous wins nobody sees.
The Comeback Lead
This fall is about proving to yourself that you can actually become her, not perfectly, just consistently. Every attempt before this one was still practice.
Focus on one small habit at a time instead of trying to change everything at once.

What Are You Grateful for Today?
The good coffee in the morning. A song that makes you happy. A beautiful sunset. A good conversation. A quiet evening. Your favorite meal. A random little moment that makes you smile. Tap the ones that feel true today.
This Autumn, Don’t Wait
Don’t wait for Friday. Don’t wait for the next vacation. Don’t wait for summer. Don’t wait for next year. Make yourself the main character now.
Romanticize your everyday life. Be confident. Know your worth. Stay true to your own style. Appreciate yourself. And be grateful for the little things. Because you have three more months of 2026, and you can absolutely make them count.
Frequently Asked Questions About Main Character Energy

You get main character energy by shifting small habits: curating a playlist for your day, dressing for yourself instead of for approval, and choosing to notice the good in ordinary moments instead of only the big milestones.
You become the main character of your own life by stopping the habit of shrinking yourself, building genuine confidence from the inside out, and refusing to wait for permission to fully show up.
Signs of main character energy include a clear sense of personal style, comfort being alone, gratitude for small everyday moments, and the confidence to make decisions without needing outside validation.
Start your main character era this fall by picking one small ritual that makes your day feel intentional, whether that is a playlist, a morning routine, or a signature outfit, and building your confidence and gratitude practice around it.
